Fine Tune Communications offers copy-editing services that respect the publisher’s style and are tailored to the desired readership.

Our easy rapport with both the publisher and the author builds a productive relationship. We are flexible to different formats and language usage, and our extraordinary attention to detail is consistent and reliable. We ensure that the text clearly conveys, and does not detract from, the author’s point.

Fine Tune’s expertise for publishers includes copy-editing the following:

  • non-fiction prose (plus fact checking) - especially Canadian naval, aviation, and mining history; philosophy; self-help; and financial services
  • poetry: With an ear for sound and rhythm, Angela touches lightly the flowing words of poetry, with sensitivity to the poet’s experience and expression and with expertise in a variety of formats.
  • CD materials (booklet, jacket, tray card, CD label), edited with a view to accuracy and to ensuring that all the required components are present
  • promotional materials, such as brochures, flyers, catalogues, advertisements, and press releases, using eye-catching language and composition, formal or informal
  • Web sites
Our prime editor, Angela Wingfield, advocates the importance of a high standard of written language. She is also familiar with Canadian, British and American English usage.

Fine Tune edits on or off site, on or off screen, uses Microsoft Word and WordPerfect software, and is accessible by telephone, fax, and e-mail. We are available on call, when you need us, without the concomitant costs of maintaining in-house staff.

Our specialties include overseeing every step of book production from manuscript preparation through printing to delivery. To meet your design demands, Fine Tune draws upon creative and versatile, out-of-the-ordinary graphic designers who have extensive experience in book layout, cover design, and audiobooks.

Proofreading

Fine Tune proofreads all manner of text including web site information, to ensure accuracy and clear communication. With an ability to spot what is missing, Angela Wingfield gives content advice and verifies that all the required components are present.

Proofreading of Spanish and French text is a special feature of our services.

Indexing

“Readers turn to an index with a very specific purpose, to locate information about a topic. When that topic is easily located, the readers' needs are satisfied” (Nancy C. Mulvany, Indexing Books). Such an index can be one of a book's selling features. Bookstore browsers often turn to the back of an important book to see if their topics of interest are included, or to see what is included. Serious researchers and readers who wish to refer frequently to the text will be frustrated without a carefully prepared, detailed index.

The index is a reader’s avenue into the book. Fine Tune Communications provides diligent analysis of the text and, as a result, a clear, crisp index — a GPS (global positioning system) for navigating the ideas and facts gathered in the book. After all the author’s efforts to bring them to fruition we help the reader to fully appreciate them.

Rolland G. Smith, Author and Anchorman, WWOR-TV

“Angela Wingfield has done a remarkable job proofreading my book, Ancient Stories Living Today. Her careful attention to every detail is astounding. Angela’s sharp ability to perceive the deeper meanings of the stories and her sensitivity to the feeling they conveyed made my work with her very easy and enjoyable.”
